| SUBIOS 2005 Highlights |
SUBIOS 2005 was held between 16th and 22nd May with many of its activities, outside a number of dedicated school presentations, being held between the International Conference Centre in Victoria and the SUBIOS village at Beau Vallon.
In keeping with tradition, SUBIOS 2005 featured several presentations by the likes of Dr. Pedro Vieyra, along with film makers Mr. John Boyle and Mr. Leandro Blanco, Mr. David Rowat, Mr. Jan Robinson and others. As in previous years there were also opportunities for the public to enjoy intro dives, snorkeling trips and outdoor film screenings of films such as ‘Ocean Wierdos’ and ‘Jungle Splash.’
The launching of SUBIOS 2005 by Vice-President Joseph Belmont was followed by public voting on the film and image entries at the ICCS and, the following day, by the opening of the schools’ Art and Creative Writing Contest, whose winners were announced later in the week.
Also featured against a backdrop of an arts and crafts bazaar, boat rides in the bay, glass bottom boat adventures as well as marine and conservation-based exhibitions, was the annual SUBIOS swimming competition and, for the ‘Grand Finale’ a fashion show followed by a beachside moutya.
Closing remarks were made by Mr. Ronny Jumeau, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources.
