SUBIOS 2006

In an ongoing attempt to promote Seychelles as an ideal dive destination, SUBIOS 2006, Seychelles’ annual Underwater Film Festival, will be held between the 6th and 12th of March.
Benefiting from several exciting new features, the 2006 festival will showcase Seychelles’ excellent and varied dive sites, highlighting the islands as offering the perfect diving holiday for families and divers with non-diving partners who will be able to enjoy the great diversity Seychelles offers visitors with exciting opportunities for snorkelling, sailing, fishing, walks and trails and cultural hotspots.
Several airlines are expected to come on board with discounted rates along with a number of local hotels that should make for especially attractive dive packages during this time.
The Festival will continue to feature photographic and videographic competitions with prizes being offered in three categories: ‘Best Image’, ‘Best Video’ and ‘Best image of Seychelles’ that will open to visitors and locals alike with winners being selected by public vote. There will also be a further, special category, ‘Best Unedited Video of Seychelles,’ open only to local participants.
The trophy for winning foreign entries will be a return ticket to Seychelles and 5 days’ accommodation on bed and breakfast basis with local winners being awarded a return ticket to an overseas underwater festival.
Various activities are planned for the hotels during SUBIOS 2006 that will continue to perform the important function of sensitizing the local population, especially the youth, on marine ecology through a series of school presentations, film shows and displays. There will even be a SUBIOS ‘Iron Man and Iron Woman’ competition with running, cycling and swimming legs.
The festival’s grand finale will take place on Sunday 12th March in central Victoria and will feature school floats, film shows, open-air music played by a selection of bands, artists’ galleries, authentic Creole food stalls featuring Creole cuisine and also handicrafts.
